Times Tables
In Year 1 you should be able to count in 2's, 5's and 10's and know all doubles and halves to 10 in preparation for learning the times tables.
What is multiplication?
Multiplying is repeated addition. The sum 10 multiply by 4 can be written as:
10 x 4 = 4
It is also the same as:
10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40
Work out these multiplication word problems using repeated addition.
Working out multiplication sums
To work out a multiplication sum first find the number you can count in.
10 x 3
Lets count in tens as this is the easiest. Now count in tens using three fingers on your hand. What have we got to?
Yes, the answer is 30.
10 x 3 = 30
